JACOB & PIERA'S JOURNEY: THE BLUEPRINT OF REP SQUASH AND HOW WE ARE GIVING BACK TO THE SQUASH COMMUNITY

The seed of Rep Squash was planted when a young Jacob Miller and his family were faced with a traumatic experience that started in 2011. An attack of Streptococcus Meningitis Type A sent him into a coma, paralysis, and brain surgery. Although successful, the brain surgery left him instantly illiterate and an infant in a 9 year olds body needing to re-learn everything. Jacob struggling at grade level was an understatement. Because of medical trauma, they had immeasurable financial hardships and were the epitome of underserviced.

The resources and support discovered and utilized for Jacob became the blueprint of how to attack various student educational challenges and  inequitable learning environments for underserved children by implementing educational enrichment tools and tutoring. No matter how a child got below grade level, RepSquash is willing to fill the gap.

Jacob emerged from Children’s Hospital Oakland CA with his life, 7 seconds  of attention span and 62% mobility having overcome paralysis through months of rehabilitation as well a long list of “health, brain and trauma ”. Doctors declared he would never be able to go to a full day of school nor compete athletically again. God, family  and the magnificent sport of Squash proved them wrong. Squash packaged what was needed to restore Jacob and help him overcome uncountable challenges with, the character pillars of squash play: focus, discipline, mental strategies, integrity, consistency, physical fitness, emotional control and so much more. These gems of Squash helped restore this modern day Knight to his purpose. His sister Piera, the loyal teammate trailblazed his path until he could go it on his own. The two different but equally gifted bring so much to the sport. Their journey isn’t over. 10 years of tenacity and fighting to overcome  adversities, this dynamic squash duo are determined to shout their squash miracles while giving to help change lives and promote Squash.

The Climb of Two Siblings

Our squash was in 2011 at a Squash drive in Oakland, California. It was a brand new community outreach combining academics, community service and introduction to squash. We were the first two to join. We learned about squash little by little and even participated in scrimmages, summer camps and competitions. After a few years or watching elite squash play, our desire to get beyond “introduction squash” grew. Private coaching in our area was nonexistent as where Squash Courts. It took some time but we found racquetball courts a few miles from us. We began our climb to “intermediate squash”. We also started recycling and watering lawns to raise money for our favorite equipment. Intermediate conquered, fast forward we clawed our way to elite! We are still with our community squash family and also supplementing by working and fundraising for additional tournament travel, clinics, and coaching and tuition. Yes, we are headed to college and we will play Squash, our passion, while we are there. Tuition at schools with squash are expensive, even with scholarships. We work for what we love! We are all in!!!! Squash For Life! We won’t quit! We created this squash apparel out of love for the game and to fund our squash training and education. We are dedicated and committed to give back. We will help others who desire to grow in Squash, Community, and Education!

We Rep Squash... Our Pride!

THE BOUNCE OF THE SQUASH BALL IS MY HEARTBEAT!

In my squash beginnings focus was a real challenge, even at the “introduction stage.” My squash community-family is amazing and full of challenges that make us well rounded in squash experience. From the squash exposure on the court and behind the scenes I have learned that the grind is real, yet honorable. My life my choice... I choose jump ropes, sweat in my eyes, court sprints, ghosting, gladiator matches on foreign courts, soloing and drill after drill. It’s been a journey and as I have learned squash, I have learned about myself. Focus, dedication, commitment, hard work, great people, challenges, disappointments, and victories. This is just the beginning.

I Rep Squash... My Pride! Let’s Go!!

Girl POWER! Let’s Go!

My squash experience started with boys as opponents... what did I learn? Power! As a girl I needed to dig out my power and bring it to the court... It took work and hours of training but that’s exactly what I did. Now, as I took up the coaching mantle it empowers me to help encourage and build the squash players of tomorrow. My community squash family that I love and adore still surrounds me and I am forever grateful for the support I have received from them over the years. I travel the world volunteering to support them and the sport we love. Squash for life! Never quit your passion. Dig deep and find a way. You can do it! We did.

I Rep Squash... My Pride!!❤
